Why do Americans like very powerful cars you are unable to use?

You accept national speed limits which require you to drive like little old ladies so why do you like cars with huge, powerful, gas guzzling engines which you can only drive at half their design speed.

It isn't for speed so is it for self image, to impress women or what?

no it's not for self image or to impress the ladies for most of us WE HAVE SOMERTHING CALLED A DRAG STRIP at least that's where I can only drive my 55 Corvette

Just having power under the hood feels really good. The hum of a v6 or better yet, a v8 engine is like music. A lot of the reason is not just top speed, but the acceleration. Having fast acceleration is pretty nice because don't we all like being ahead of the other guys right after the light turns green?
