Why do Americans eat pancakes and syrup on the same plate as a cooked breakfast?

Pancakes are cooked, BTW, so that part of your question is odd, but to answer the mixing of eggs and pancakes on the same plate, I don't mind if the eggs are scrambled (another point you neglected to mention, how the eggs are prepared) rather than sunny side up, but if they are just sunny side up then I would definitely have them on a separate plate. Why do people like you always feel the need to frame these questions mentioning Americans? I doubt America is the only country in the world that serves pancakes and eggs on the same plate.
 
Because America (technically "The United States of America", because Canada and Mexico are part of America and have nothing to do with the U.S., as we call it here) is the "Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave" and we have the right to eat our damn pancakes any way we please! Because we are the only country in the world to have ever used a thermonuclear device against another country, and we'll do it again if we have to. Because we are the World's Police, and we will launch a military invasion against any country on earth if we are sufficiently provoked, or even if we're not provoked and just feel a little cranky that day. Because you've probably never even been to the U.S. and yet you make these broad-brush statements about something you know very little about. I doubt that you've ever even had real U.S. pancakes. You probably only know about those effeminate French crepes. Girlie pancakes!
Besides, if you get your pancakes at I.H.O.P. they are served on a separate plate.
 
Ughhh.. saw it this morning - an eggy knife cutting into sweet pancakes!
I'd rather eat the pancakes afterwards-on a separate plate, and another knife and fork!
I guess it saves on the washing up....
 
good question, i was raised in the south, and that's just how you eat breakfast. i guess it comes down to the culture you live in. what you learn as a child stays with you. it sure is good though! a little syrup touching the eggs never hurt anyone, just makes sweet eggs!
 
I agree with you. Anything w/ syrup needs it's own plate. Syrup ruins a perfectly good egg or piece of bacon.

Of course I'm one of those freaks that thinks ice cream should go on it's on plate and NEVER on the pie. :-)

First off don't group Americans all into one group,it's all personal preference on how someone eats THEIR food. If you don't like it fine,but keep your opinion to yourself.
 
Many people actually like the taste together - look at Mc Donalds Mc Griddle, it's basically an egg sandwich wrapped in a pancake roll.

Different strokes for different folks.
