All the journalists who went along reported a bunch of street parties. That doesn't count as a riot in the UK. Doesn't count as a riot in the USA either (except maybe on Fox News or something).

It was reported. I watched a news clip of some french rioting burning tires in the middle of the street. CNN or Fox News for sure. That is pretty main stream.
