Why did US Bail out the likes of GM and Chrysler Motors?
Hello friends, Im not from US and Im wondering why did the Government in US bail out GM and Chrystler Motors and save the america Auto Industry? I know they saved a lot of jobs and want to "kick start" by building auto and selling, my point is American cars are not good compared to Japanese they are simply not efficient, you have big gas guzzling vehicles that are not environmentally friendly and take a lot off gasoline to function, look at the Japanese or german they make nice efficient motors that sell well in europe australia and north america, but the same cannot be said about american motor, we hardly see americen motors in europe, simply not appropriate.

So why bail them friends?

It has more to do with politics than it does with good or bad auto manufacturing. A great deal of the auto bailout was pay back for previous political favors. The administration was trying to save high paying union jobs for one of its major constituencies.
As for your contention that American cars are not as good as German or Japanese cars, I suggest you do some further research. Ford is consistently rated very high in both vehicle reliability and initial build quality. Oh, and BTW, Ford did not accept a government bailout.
