Don't remember this being discussed before. Anyone know why Vue would dispose of a fairly high-profile cinema?

Why did the Vue at the O2 Greenwich become Cineworld?

My guess is it's losing money. I never went to it when it was an Vue cinema. I've been to see 6 films there in the last two weeks and walked straight to the counter, got my ticket and went to see the film. I think the biggest audience I was with was about 15-20 people. This is bad when you take into consideration the films I saw and the fact that it's the school holidays and the so called Summer Blockbuster season.

Because of their unlimeted card Cineworld may be able to draw people in, but if Vue were drawing nobody it's no surprise they unloaded it.

I've seen an advert on the tube for the O2 Cineworld and it specifically mentions the
Baby girl on the way!

Yeah it can. It counts as an non-West End cinema. I have that card and they let me use it unquestioned.

Most articles say that Cineworld got the license to operate the cinema at the O2 so I guess either AEG weren't happy with Vue and decided to switch to Cineworld or Vue weren't making money which does surprises me as the O2 is a good venue. I imagine it's the main cinema for people who live in Greenwich.
I imagine Cineworld has made changes to make it more like a Cineworld venue.

The problem with the O2 is it's relatively in No Man's Land. It's not in a town or the high street. Other than places to eat there is nothing to makw a person go to the O2 during the day.
Last month I went to North Greenwich station to get the tube only to find there was a problem and they weren't running.
I had no choice but to wait for a bus to get back to civilisation and an variety of buses and BR as it would have taken at least half an hour to walk.
For local residents going there you pass may have to pass two cinemas (Picture House and an big Odeon) to get to the O2 so people don't bother. People the other side of the river use West Quay so don't travel south of the river to see films.
As I mentioned previously when I've been to the O2 it's been dead, but as I pass the Odeon on the way there are long ques to get tickets and nibbles. I would guess they are drawing in 4 or 5 times what they are getting at the O2.
