About last February, the Archbishop of Canterbury in England suggested that as so many Moslems now live in the UK, perhaps certain parts of Sharia law be adopted into English Law.
The UK press went mental about it and crticised him for a variety of reasons, some more convincing than others.
Many tabloids took the view that this would involve rather blunt solutions to crime, highly conservative constraints on romance and greatly diminished freedoms for women.
I'm not a Moslem, and I never studied Sharia law much, but I suspect this is a huge over-simplification.
But my question is this - given that The Sun, The News of the World, etc, have been campaigning for hanging and flogging, and regimented gender roles since anyone can remember. ...Surely they should have applauded the Archbishop's suggestion?
I think the irony of this was really obvious, but I was alone in noticing it.
Are the press so anti-moslem, they have no interest in the issues per se, they just see moslems as being the enemy and we mustn't yield to them, even if they're advocating what many journalists have been advocating since they could write.
