Why did Stephanie Meyer write Twilight?

I read in an interview that Meyer actually does not like vampires (which explains why they didn't have fangs) but regardless, why would she write a book about vampires if she doesn't even like them? That be like me writing a sci-fi book and I don't like sci-fi.

She decided to ruin the vampire genre by releasing a bad vampire book knowing it would become popular and spawn thousands of other bad vampire books. By doing so it would eventually destroy the genre.

That or because she needed a shocking twist and a reason for Edward to sparkle.
