Why did Sony Vegas turn into a .bak file?

So I had Sony Vegas Pro 9.0 installed on my computer, and a few months later my internet stopped working, so I gave it to my cousin to fix. When I got it back, I tried to open it, and I found that it had changed into a .bak file. Like, WTF? I don't know how it got changed to a .bak file and what turned it into a .bak file. Is there any way to turn it back?
I mean, the program ITSELF turned into a .bak file. It's not a backup of a project. I know what a .bak is.

Howdy! Do you know if they make any plugins to assist with SEO? I'm trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I'm not seeing very good gains. If you know of any please share. Kudos!
