Why did Obama lie about Ayers during his April 18 debate with Hillary about Ayers?

Obama said that Ayers was an English professor.

Ayers is a professor of Education. Different ballgame. It means that Ayers teaches the people who wish to teach our children how to do so.

And why did Hillary let Obama get away with it?
 
He lied because he thought it would never be raised up again. The October shocker is coming and it will wipe Obama off the map.
 
He didn't lie, he doesn't know him well enough to know what he specializes in.
