Why did my wife overreact over a little practical joke?

For wife's birthday recently I bought her a pair of shoes from Primark on the high st, and just for a laugh I put them in a Jimmy Choo box which an ex of mine gave me. The look on the poor cow's face was priceless when she seen what was in the box. But she has barely spoken to me since.

I'm not about to waste all that money on her and buy her the real thing, but I need to eat, even though she's a lousy cook. Any solutions?

She needs to wise up 'cause my ex is only too willing to take her place; she told me to kick her out.
OK I'm not cheap...I'll be paying for the Italian kitchen she wanted for the next 8 years...the kitchen where she rustles up her disgusting concoctions..

you know what you freaking freek show, do your wife a favor and let her meet a real man who doesn't need to rely on his ex...u my friend are an insecure pig....

You don't think much of your wife, do you? Why did you marry her in the first place?

You really shouldn't be getting your wife's hopes up like that particularly on her birthday. There are times where it isn't very appropriate to crack something like that, and something that seems so menial really means the world. Think about it, it's her birthday, and as her husband, she can only assume that you would want to treat her especially nice that day. Instead, you use her birthday to crack a joke and make a laugh. It's humiliating to her and besides, every girl needs a small splurge.

Apologize immediately. And try actually getting her the real thing. The way you are talking exhibits no concern for your wife whatsoever.
