Why did my platty fish die???

You don't provide any of the important information required to answer this question. Though I do hear they are particular about spelling, especially about their own name.
 
ive had my tank for quite a while and i sorted it so recently no fish have died but i got home from school today went to my room just to see i had a dead fish. my fish are all plattys and the one that died looked fine it just died any ideas why?
 
well, there are many possibilities as to why your fish is dead. You would need to provide alot more info for anyone to give you an educated guess. Letting us know how big your tank is, ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels, and how long you have had your fish would be a good start. I'll take a stab at it and say that your tank is overstocked. Sometimes fish just die, but if another fish dies on you, then you will need to correct the problem. Good luck.

Plattys dont really have a long life span, it could have been anything really such as swim bladder or maybe even a recent water change. Dont worry about it too much unless you start losing more. Good Luck
 
Check water conditions and quality.
Temp good?
Waste levels?
Ph?
Any water changes recently? Did you do too much? Too little? Rememberr to treat with conditioner first?
Any chemicals switched? New brands?
And lastly, how long have you had her? Even if you didn't have her very long, you don't know how old she was when you got her. It may have simply been her time to go :(
 
There isn't enough info in your post to tell, really. Perhaps make a new post with more information, like how long have you had the tank? How big is it? How many fish? How often do you do water changes, and how much water to you change at a time? Did you add new fish lately? How much/how often do you feed them?

Probably the most common cause of fish death is too much ammonia in the tank. Ammonia comes from waste, like fish poop or old rotting fish food. There can be too much ammonia in a new tank when it is cycling, if there are too many fish, if they are fed too much, if their water is not changed often enough, or if a bunch of fish are added at once, etc. You can buy water testing kits to test the amount of ammonia in your water, or, you can also bring a sample of your tank water to a pet store, and a lot of them will test your water for free.
