Why did my betta fish jump out of it's bowl?

I had a betta fish for 3 years and it was perfectly healthy and it caused no problems. 3 weeks ago we changed the bowl for the fish and it adapted well to its new habitat. Yesterday night we noticed that the fish was swimming while leaning on one side and it was also constantly laying down which was strange. Today in the morning we found it laying in our kitchen floor far from it's bowl. My mom put the fish back in the bowl. Later just a couple minutes ago we found it again in the same kitchen spot on the floor and it was dead. Do any of you know why this happened? Please help!

The water temp could've been wrong especially since the temperature can quickly change in a fish bowl, just like a bowl of soup. And sometimes, fish just like to swim fast and travel up. Next time, i'd suggest leaving at least 3 inches of the top of the bowl empty :)

Bettas are jumpers, nothing new. Females jump even higher. I always recommend a lid for the tank or have the water lowered so it can not jump out. They can jump up to 3 inches, so if the water level is at least 3 inches from the top, your good.

Bettas are known jumpers When he jumped out the first time, didn't you think it might happen again/ I'm not yelling here..but in the three years you had him, how much research did you do about them? Because every site out there will tell you they are jumpers. In the wild, its how their ancestors got from one shallow place to another. Apiece of grate like material will suffice on bowls or even a crochet dollie will do. Something with air holes so he can still breath. From what you have said about how he was acting after the last water change, it sounds like he was in shock. I changed my on tnk the other day and mine sulked for two days, laying on the plants an sulking. Then he suddenly got up and acted normal. All my tanks, and they are tanks, not bowls, havw full covers and even the back where the heater wire runs out is covered. You would be surprised how small a hole they can jump through too. You did well to have him 3 years in a bowl. Now get at least a 2.5 gallon tank with a heater and full hood. You will have one for 7 years instead.

Bettas should not be kept in bowls. He committed suicide to escape the poor conditions.

Bettas are known jumpers, so their tanks should always be covered.

In the future bettas should be kept in about a five gallon aquarium (complete with aquarium hood) with a gentle filter and aquarium heater.
