Why did my baby fish die?

Good day to all. This is going to be a bit lengthy; however, I need to give you the whole story. Ok.. 6 wks ago my fiance and I set up a 10 gal fish tank. We started w/ 2 adult female Molly's. One black the other dalmation. The morning after we got them we had 12 babies! Apparently they don't teach safe sex at the fish store.. lol.. anyway. all but 2 survived. Both my freckles and blackjack adults died last week. I bawled like a baby. Last night I fed the babies now six weeks old and flourishing. This morning I woke up and ALL OF THEM EXCEPT TWO WERE DEAD!!!! The largest two Dalmatian Molly's survived. I have no idea what happened. Anyone have any ideas??? I would be very grateful to know. We are taking a sample of the water to Sea Escapes tomm to have it checked. Thank you. Carman

The problem here I first see is that you added fish straight into a brand new tank and it didn't have a chance to cycle, so cycled with the fish. Ammonia and nitrites burn the fish's gill tissue which eventually suffocates them, fry are especially prone to this.

I suggest buying your own liquid test kit - I've seen stores use out of date test kits, use strips (which are inaccurate) or just plain lie about test results in a hope you'll buy more fish from them. Get your own kit like the API Master Test Kit, it isn't cheap, but it's worth it!

Have a read through these:
