WHy did my 96 lexus es300 V6 auto(190hp)stock lose to a 01 Mazada protege V4...

...Steptronic(140hp)stock? we were at a 40 mile roll at horn we both acclerated but within seconds the mazda was like 2 car lengths a head of me.whats wrong with the lexus sparks plugs ,engine,oil,tranny .weight????Mazda had a cold air intake..
 
The Mazda protege is a In-line 4 not v4. Was the Protege manuel becuase manuel transmission have way better gear ratios and his weight helped him too. I have a weak 1.5L 94 civic with 100hp if that and I can beat some cars off the line because its manuel and very light. Next time try racing him at 40mph with your car starting in D2 or 2(basicly in the 2 gear) what ever it says on the gear shifter like P R N D.... To save time on your tranny having to down shift to it.
