Why did I get an F in the Class?

I decided I wanted to take a college course in American Authors, in particular the black author Toni Morrison. At 30 years old, I still don't have a degree. My parents told me they would chip in and pay for a class as long as I studied really hard.

It turned out we were reading "The Bluest Eye", and we had a really boring teacher. His name was Mr. Franklin. The first day of class I joked and said 'Can I call you Benjamin?' I chuckled, but no other student thought I was funny and Mr. Benjamin told me to kindly refrain from making pointless jokes when he was going over our syllabus.

Our task was every week to read a few chapters of the book and then discuss it in class. I hated the book and found it as boring as Mr. Franklin. During a break one day in class, I overheard two of my classmates discussing the teacher and the book.

"Ugh, this class is SO boring. And I hate this book! I want to flush it down the toilet." One of the girls said.

"Me too." I chimed in. "I don't understand Toni Morrison's way of thinking. I personally think the book is racist. And Mr. Franklin makes me want to fall asleep!"

The girls laughed and we all agreed the class sucked big time. I felt relieved. These girls also hated the class and Mr. Franklin, and therefore I probably didn't have to worry about studying or reading since THEY seemed to hate it too. The next week Mr. Franklin quizzed us on the most recent chapters. When he got to me, he asked me a specific question about one of the characters. I laughed, and looked at the girls I was joking with earlier.

"Ask me if I care!" I bolted out to Mr. Franklin, who looked confused but then shrugged. I looked at the girls and winked. But this time they weren't laughing. They also looked at me confused. Now I was worried.

I ended up getting an F in the course. I guess due to me failing the tests and not reading the book. But when I approached the girls about what grades they got, they told me "Uh, we got As. Why?" I couldn't believe it! They lied to me! Earlier we had joked about how much we hated the book and the teacher. But they got As? HOW? Can someone please explain to me why the fuck I get an F for being honest, but these bitches got As for lying? They said they hated the class, but then got As? WTF?
