I'd like to better understand twentieth century history so I have a question for any history afficianados out ther. Why was France "occupied" by Germany from 1940 to 1944? Can one country completely take over, or "occupy", another country when a state of war is in effect? Did the Germans intend to take over France permanantly? Can this ever happen again to any country? Thank you!
