President Obama spent hours meeting with Republican leaders personally. He made compromises to win them over. But Republicans refused to play ball. They're insisting on a plan that doesn't invest a cent in green jobs or health care or education. They just want more tax cuts for the rich and for corporations, even though that's part of what got us into this mess.GOP leaders will get their way—unless we can convince a few Republican senators who are on the fence.some of the most ridicolous answers ever

He doesn't need their votes. That's just for show, Although I am not republican, I hope they continue to oppose this radical muslim.

There's nothing in it for them, period, end of story. They could care less if their wealthy contributors are not served first. I mean how hard is that to understand?

Who wants a pork loaded incentive bill? Check out Rush Limbaughs plan. A LOT better.

Please tell me what these compromises were. I would really like to know. From what I hear, Obama proclaimed that he won the election and therefore trumps all of them.

Because this is a pork and barrel spending bill that does NOT stimulate the economy. Yes, it will create some jobs, but the tax payers are paying or those jobs and it also throws the Gov't even MORE into debt...Also, Pelosi would not let a single Republican have anything to do with the writing of the bill, not one word. I applaud them for having the balls to do the right thing. And if this thing passes and becomes a disaster, none of their names are tied to it.14 Democrats voted against it too.

You do not need Republicans so why so unhappy.Or is it you want them so when it does not work out (and it won't because it is not a stimulus bill it is a pork bill) then you can blame them also. But if it is so good why not pass it with out them and take all the credit. Or are you libs afraid.

do you really think the republicans will ever think about the people? heck, they're only paid to get a big fat check in their pocket.

I'm a DEM and actually the Republicans want tax cuts for everyone, not just the rich, their theory is that if they take less taxes out of our checks we won't be taking money from the government, just getting money we worked for. As I do understand this logic I think they forget that if we get tax cuts that leaves less money for social security and welfare ect...That also means that the state you live in will not get as much money back which leaves the state with less funding for education, roads and bridges and less money to pay those who work for the state, which means no raises and loss of jobs. As I do agree with the stimulus package, I do also think their are downfalls to both sides and not everyone can be made happy.

All the pork that was in the bailout was not acceptable to Republicans. Thank God. Pelosi and Reid stuffed the bailout with so much crap. Again, Republicans wouldn't go for it. Now whether Obama will do some line item deletions, remains to be seen.

Because they saw the plan for what it is. It is supposed to be a "stimulus package" which it clearly isn't and they recognized that fact.

They had their minds made up before obama met with them. Just because he "spent hours" meeting with them doesnt obligate them to "play ball". They have their own reasons for the choices they make, and saying he spent hours meeting with them is a lame reason to claim they need to agree with him.

lets 200 million for sod, 60 + million for std's, laws that make it hard for car company's to make cars causing people to loose jobs, the Dem's are going oink oink oink all the way to the bank

Republicans in the House of Representatives proposed a bill that would create more jobs with less money. I guess you forgot about that part."Green," health care, and education have nothing to do with economic "stimulus," and belong in the yearly federal budget. It is spending, not tax cuts, that got us where we are. That's why I don't understand why so many people want to spend more money we don't have. You also forgot that eleven democrats voted against the "stimulus." If I were a socialist, I would be worried about those folks.
