The same reason why the chief priests and Pharisees were what they were: they did not love truth, but confusion because it suited them to keep their power and position (Joh. 11:48, Joh. 8:44).

Nah - no quality control that way. Standardization is a necessary component of any religion. Without it, you get people going off on tangents and the message is lost.

There have been updated versions; however, anything that refers to the infallible articles of faith or other infallible pronouncements can never be changed. Any such change in these areas would prove both the Catholic Church and scripture as false.
