Why can't the church be taxed as a normal business?

Churches make money right? So why are they not counted as a business and taxed as such? That's revenue that our country is loosing. Any church cannot prove in court that their god exists. So why cannot they be taxed? Some Americans do not believe in hocus pocus but they cannot start a business without being taxed. But a church can?

So all you care about is money?

The money that the church makes goes to the upkeep of the church, and to charities, which is what the collection plate is for.

The church doesn't pay tax because it is usury, which is a sin.

Imagine the revenue America is losing because the citizens are idiots, and the people running the stockmarkets and economy (males) can't do their freaking jobs, so screw up the world's economy.

good point . i think you have a valid question. but on the other hand they sponsor help where none would otherwise be available.then there are the churches that are with noses in the air and have the police keep the homeless from even asking for help.and the would send them away calling them selves the community church. But both your points are with merit

Non profits aren't taxed.. churches are non profits.
There money is used to pay the minister, the electric bill and help the poor and destitute in the city they are working in they are not in the business of making money but to distribute and live on a very lean income. Without churches in the community they would be a lot of people hurting right now, they do good work and help a lot.

Because god said so *stone cold entrance song starts*

hehe I dunno

good point

It's not the making money, it's the nonprofit nature. I am not a churchgoer, but I see a difference between a church and a business. Churches have more in common with a nonprofit like a food giveaway or women's shelter, in the sense that the reason they are collecting money is to help people -- in the specific way they see fit.
And in the US churches do more charity work than any other entity except the gov. I wouldn't want them taxed out of doing that.
