Why can't I see some photo's on Facebook?

I've noticed on some people's profiles, under their profile picture it says "Photos of Whoever (300)", but when you click on the link, it says there are only 50 photos.

How you do you this? The photo's I can see have been tagged and added by other people and the person in question.

Why are some photo's hidden even though the number of photo's is not?
 
It's the setting in privacy set by the owner of the profile. And they can set it to names of friends that can see it, show to public and show what kind of picture( Profile, Tagged etc.)
 
The answer to the last question: That's just the way facebook works.

It's because of the owner of the pictures privacy. The owner obviously tagged the person in their picture, then they didn't want everybody to see it. You still see the number (300) on their profile, because that is the number of how many times they have been tagged.
