Why can't I get ringtones onto my Rogers K1 KRZR with Motorola Phone Tools?

I heard somewhere that you could just put little clips of songs onto your KRZR through Motorola Phone Tools and then be able to apply them as ringtones. Why isn't it working for me, is there some kind of trick to it?
I also live in Canada BTW, I don't know if that has anything to do with it at all.
