Why can't I get a spark from my ignition coil for my 1986 Mercury Sable?

I have a new coil on my car. I tested the wires that plug into it it and they work. The car will turn over I just can't seem to get a spark off the coil to go to the distributor cap. I've been trying to figure out the culprit with little to no out come. Please help.
