I am able to connect to the various communities, but it is not always straight away. I try various regions, most success with North America & Australia - but to be honest, I don't bother unless I am not getting good search results.
This worked particularly well when I was looking for a song and got very few results without connecting to a region. So I connected to Australia and bingo I had loads to choose from.
But sometimes it is very slow. When I'm ready to give up after failed to connect, suddenly they start connecting, it just takes a little time.
Have another try - and wait a little.
