Why can't I connect my Sony Walkman to my Sony stereo?

So I bought this neat Sony mini component system which supports every Apple IPod ever produced, but the docking port on it won't fit my Sony Walkman. Is there some sort of adapter available for the docking port so I can use the Walkman with the remote?
 
No, the walkman will not work with an iPod dock. It's not just a matter of fit, it's a matter of the pin placement on the docking connector and design of the electronics.
