Why can't I chat on facebook?

I'll try to keep this short. Everytime someone tries to chat with me on facebook, the first words they type show up but then it says they are offline, even though they are not. It will even show they are still typing while still showing them as offline and wont let me type anything back. It usually happens with the same person I talk to everyday, but once in a while it will do it with others. What could be causing this? Its been happening for several weeks now. Ive tried logging in and out myself when this happens, but still the same problem. Its driving me crazy
 
I have the same problem. I believe it's based on your internet connection, and the other persons connection. You could probably submit your problem to Facebook, but I believe there is nothing more you could do.
 
I think it's a Facebook glitch. It happens with me too. Just try sending them messages instead od chatting if this happens again, and report the problem to Facebook. This bothers me too!
