In JD Salingers Catcher in the rye, it seems like nobody helps Holden. but one of my questions asks why cant anyone help holden. Why can't anyone help him? or does he not allow them to?
My understanding is that he doesn't want to be helped. To allow someone to help him would be to allow them "in." He doesn't want to get too close to people, so he keeps them "out." He is definately a very interesting character.
