...explain how the science works? AGW denialists are quick to deny the hugely documented science which has been a consensus among all national and international bodies of panelists since 2007, with none of these groups protesting with even a hint of dissent to this day (this being the reason only rabid self-representing Wall Street fanatics ever speak out against it -- they're in it for the money).
But despite this, they call themselves skeptics. I don't understand.
Hey, I don't mean to rain on their parade, but that's not what skepticism is. Since so many people seem to be confused, Dictionary.com defines the word skeptic as "a person who questions the validity or authenticity of something purporting to be factual."
Skepticism is healthy questioning. It's thoroughly researching both sides of a debate without letting one's passion for the truth conflict with the fact that one also doesn't know everything in the world about any given topic just by hearing about it on the news. What about those "researchers" in the 60s who kept parroting the lie that nicotine does a body good? They were being funded directly from corporate interests, so they financially manufactured an artificial voice of dissent.
Hello? Anyone?
They created the illusion that there was an argument for profit. History repeats itself all the time, but the zombified lemmings continue to march in lockstep toward corporate totalitarianism, waving miniature American flags to passersby, with Bibles and assault rifles strapped to their backs. It's an anti-intellectual attempt to bankrupt us of knowledge and take all our money. I hate to draw this parallel, but it works -- this is like Nazi Germany. Hitler suppressed scientific findings that conflicted with his fanatic agenda. He kept the masses ignorant, and it greatly aided him in his quest to rule the world.
Denialism is different from skepticism. Unlike skepticism, which is to research and accept dissenting evidence, denialism is to immediately and irreversibly disregard any and all available data that conflicts with one's personal views. It's the cognitive equivalent of covering your ears and screaming "I can't hear you! La la la la la!" It stems from an overwhelming need to be right about everything, as well as other similar sociopsychological insecurities. I think for a lot of people, it's part of that weird 'black and white world view where we're on God's side and they're minions of Satan' complex that unfortunately seems to be so commonplace nowadays.
Anyway, long story short, America is doomed.
