Why build churches?

Why not take turns going to each others houses for church. Think of the money that would be saved and could be used to help people. The amish do this and it works well for them. They even have to ride to each others houses by horse.
Just think there are thousands of dollars spent to build and upkeep the church. Why not take that money and help rebuild someone's house that burned down, or buy a poor family cloths for their kids.
a lot of people are saying that all those people would not fit in my house.
Well split up your congregations into smaller groups and rotate houses. Setup a plan and rotate who goes where and who preaches where so that you don't always hear the same person preach or attend beside the same person you did last time.

Wouldn't God rather you actually help people than just worship him. And if he does just want to be worshiped, how nice could heaven really be.
It just seems to me like something has happened to the way god is supposed to be worshiped along the line. Most religious people have lost touch with what is important, and that is helping your neighbor. I just can't believe that god would want money spent to worship him rather than using the money to help one of his children.
Another answer to the to many people in your house problem is the internet.
Couldn't you just have blogs or video conferences instead. Then you could take the money you save on gas and put that to use for the needy too.
The reason I bring this up is that I have friends that are very devoted to their churches that put up lessons every week. And whenever I mention just using this for their church they think I'm crazy.
I think that a lot of good could come out of this, a lot of people who are down on their luck would be more likely to worship if they seen the people of the lord helping them out in their time of need.

Your thought is truly awesome but it's sad not all will listen and not all can appreciate these kind of things. I also admire the Amish, given a choice I am willing to live like them.

You know what , there are still those who do that, nurturing what God has blessed them and keeping away to the sin of pride which can clearly be observed in buildings arrayed in gold and costly material things that does not please the Lord.

you do have a point about the money going to the needy. But God's plan was to come together and commune with each other in prayer, praise, and worship. Yes, you can do that at peoples homes but when you have a whole town coming along- you sort of need somewhere bigger with more space to meet.
