Why arn't most Large breed Dogs used for Hunting wild Hogs/Boars?

I'm thinking of training a small pack to help hunt some boars, the woods around my area are Dangerous because of them and I want to try and make it a bit safer. I'm not a sports hunter, I'm not doing it for fun, I just wanna make my home safer ya know.

Now the Hogs around my area can get pretty big, anywhere from 150lbs-250lbs, I've even heard of a few people seeing one or two around 300lbs.

Keeping this in mind, during my research found it interesting to find out that in most cases, the Preferred Dogs are not the larger breeds such as Mastiffs, Danes, and some sub-breeds of Bloodhounds. But instead are Stout, Solid mid-sized Dogs such as Pits, Bull Dogs and certain Mutts.

I can kind of Understand why, as these Dogs are a lot stronger Pound-for-Pound, but I just seemed to me that the larger Dogs would be better, if nothing more than them being able to contend more evenly with Pig with sheer size.

Does anyone know the reason for this? If my Info is off, what Dog IS best, and why?
