Why arent there any "UK team" in sports, but 4 teams instead (Scotland, england...)?

Logically, wales cannot be considered a different country than scotland - no real border/immigration, same money, same language, one UK prime minister...

any good internet source that would explain it?

merci

I don't agree that Wales are a country, they've always been ruled by England.

N Ireland is British owned Ireland, its really just a province rather than a country.

Scotland and England have been two seperate countries for thousands of years and played the first international football match ever.

Scotland or Englands participation shouldn't be questioned but the other two are up for debate.

I don't understand too. Spain is also made with several different countries (Castile, Catalonia, Aragon, Navarra, Basque, Asturias and Galicia) and we play together in WC and Eurochampionship.

Hi Bob,

Because the UK is made up of several different countries - Scotland, England and Wale (the difference between United Kingdom and Great Britain is a different story - I always get them confused myself!). Having a UK team would therefore be a bit like having a "South America" team, when really there are several countries in the region. Hope this makes sense.

England, Scotland, northern Ireland and Wales each have their own football associations and each are members of FIFA, therefore each is entitled to have their own national team.
You may see a British team enter the 2012 Olympics in London but that will just be a one off. The home nations (England, Scotland, N Ireland and Wales) would never give up their right to field their own national teams.
