Why aren't religious people interested in the environment?

From personal experience I've found people who prescribe to religions are more concerned about themselves - ie - not going to hell, etc. than they are about preserving nature and habitat for the planet. There is one exception I've encountered and that was the Native Americans I met who respected nature very much so although I don't know if you could consider that a religion.

Umm..I am. I have even donated money in the past to help preserve wilderness areas

I guess your stereotype fails eh?

Apparently you've never met any pagans. We are very interested in the environment; some of the most fervent environmentalists are pagans.

I believe you are referring to the main religion in this country, and I'll tell you why they don't care how they trash the earth. They think man was given domain over it to do whatever they want. They believe they have license to pollute it, destroy it, rape it to their heart's content. After all, this world is an evil place. It's all about the next world; this one doesn't matter.

I would say that question is based on a false assumption, and therefore cannot be answered in the most literal sense. However, the spirit of the question begs to know something, so in answer I will say:

YES! There are religious people interested in the environment. I am one of them and I know others.

If you want to know more about that or talk about it, email me.

I am a christian and I am concerned fro the environment, but there are still plenty of people, religious and other wise that are to concerned with how it would effect them if society went to more environmentally friendly stuff.

Jehovah's Witnesses are very environmentally aware and friendly. This is due to the fact that we as Jehovah's Witnesses believe that God will 'bring to a ruin those ruining the earth'. Revelation 11:18.

Some of them are, I guess it depends on who it is...

Most of the people that reply to this...will probably say "We do care about the environment!" but I don't think having dinners, yard sales, ETC...benefits the environment. I rarely see any church's do anything for the environment, it's always going to the people. We're too greedy.

My personal views about people at my church is...they act like teenagers would...during high school. There is always some type of drama going on with them..and they talk about each other nonstop. I think they only care about their image in church. Truly I don't think they care about the Environment...where I live. They do things for the children at my church...all the time. Giving money to your church...isn't being interested in the environment...it only goes towards funds for the church.

Psalms 96:12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice

Song of Solomon 4:14 Spikenard and saffron; calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices:

Ezekiel 17:24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done it .
