Why are we becoming so uncultured?

We just had 2 or 3 "America lacks culture" threads a little while ago. America has a culture. Southern Louisiana has kickass culture. Avidity, I think you are spoiled and don't realize the quantity and quality of culture you are surrounded by. New Orleans and Cajun-country has THE BEST food in the history of the universe. There's nothing wrong with enticing people to see plays or goto festivals with free food. I don't know about yall, but most plays seem to have an appalling lack of robots tearing shit up, lesbian sex scenes, and explosions. Festivals? I've never been to a festival or fair that offered commodities I could use... other than food and beer. The point being, food and beverages constitute a huge element of culture.

I'll cap off response with the same question I've offered in the other 'America has no culture' threads. If America has no culture, then who does and what makes them cultured?
 
Fuck that bullshit. Everything you just talked about, the food, beer and lack of interest in art, is the American culture. Cultures are the tendencies and actions of a certain group of people.

I love American culture, and do you know why? Because everyone wants to adopt our culture. Everyone overseas is wearing "american clothing", watching american television and movies. Look at how many people come over here and adapt to our culture. Those muthafucka's that want to pretend to be all fucking "cultured and refined" by looking at art and listing to opera are not any more cultured than me.

Porn is my art and rap is my opera and I'm just as cultured as the next guy.
 
i assume that avid is refering to historical culture. I mean... im sure americans have been getting drunk, whipping ass and sitting down to dinner since its inception... but its nothing really to be proud of.

I believe he also is refering to seeing the artistic displays in all forms and genres of music art and things that make one "cultured". Its fine if you prefer one genre or form to another, but why do you not enjoy a little of all? If you do not prefer one opera to another, search untill you find one you do like (personally i reccomend natalie dessay to mozart). You dont have to like all forms of art, but you should be able to comment on them and express why you find them distasteful. The same should be done about all things.

If you have no peticular reason for disliking something... then you are uncultured. I believe there is one of every form of entertainment that one can enjoy. I dont prefer rap... but i have found rap that i do like. I have at the very least, one cd of every genre of music transending nations. I have movies from different cultures and nations that i enjoy. I like all forms of art and went as far as to tattoo da vinci on my back... which is part of another form of culture in of itself.

Point is... when you lack understanding or common grounds on subjects that make life eventful... you (in my opinion) are an uncultured potentially hateful person.

I mean... give me one good argument against why you dont like something. Make it valid and leave me no room to challenge your thoughts.

Seriously, though, if you want to grasp at straws and blame something, I say it's apathy and laziness.
 
Becomming uncultured? seems to me mankind hasnt had much luck at culture at any givin time... example...
