Why are there so many producers credited at the beginning of the US version

of "The Office" a joke perhaps? I'm a massive fan of the US version of "The Office" starring Steve Carell. One thing I notice is there are SO MANY 'producers' and 'assistant producers' credited at the opening credits that is almost seems like some sort of running gag? Can anyone shed some light on this one?
 
you do realize the producers are generally the people who are fronting the money for the production..as wildly hilarious as the show may be, at the time they were making it, it was as unknown as a black president.
