Why are some front doors to peoples homes painted red??? Is this for good luck?

It's usually because of preference. Most tend to go with red because it usually contrasts with the color of the house (sky blue, yellow, gray... lighter colors).
Second, many home magazines say to paint the front door a vibrant color... the color of the door should stand out from the rest of the house.

Obviously personal preference for one.
Secondly aren't those the more noticeable? If your door was red you could simply say, second house on the right with the red door!
