Why are republicans against Environmental protection/regulation?

I consider myself mostly a moderate republican but I'm not entirely against energy efficiency and environmental conservation. I'd like to live in a clean and healthy environment ect. and not waste energy.

I was just reading about the possible government shutdown today and read that one of the reasons they can't come to an agreement is the GOP wanting to strip funding for the EPA. Why is that such an issue so strongly? Environmental protection/conservation funding is not THAT huge of a deal, at least imo. If hundreds of billions of dollars were going into it then yes it would be, but I don't think it's a huge chunk of money to worry about(..I think) worth shutting down the government for among other reasons. I need to check the the statistics on that though.

Despite being socially conservative (being Christian) I'm considering just being an independent or something seeing all this mess.

Not against regulation, just over regulation or regulations that have an intent on modifying certain economic aspects.
As an example, there have been regulations and subsidies for ethanol production with the intent to reduce oil use and reduce harmful emissions. Many environmental organizations pushed for these regulations. Then their own studies discovered that the processes needed to produce one gallon of ethanol use more energy than one gallon of gasoline and produce even more harmful emissions. Add to that the fact that the regulations diverted commodities that would be used for food to a fuel source driving up food prices. It also altered the crop mix diverting land use that was used for other purposes.

Democrats want to tell people what do drive, how much energy to use, and stuff. Besides, if global warming is such a big deal, why aren't you going after all the "environmentalists" with private jets?

Okay, since when did the whole global warming BS came to reality ? when that scam artist, aka Al-Gore made a film about polar bears dying ?

Global Warming is BARELY man made.

Everybody wants clean air and clean water, and we have it. America is in fact very clean, and the EPA is an unelected body of government bureaucrats (Democrats) who are writing regulations with the force of law in order to bend our lifestyles to suit their personal tastes. We should end the EPA and replace it with an advisory panel.

republicans always answer.."we don;t oppose regulation...we simply oppose "over regulation" ...
problem is...ANY regulation is over regulation....

it cost businesses money to deal w/ ecological issues they create in their manufacturing or other processes....

quit voting republican will ya...? jeez...they're just fake...
