why are republicans against addressing climate change?

it seems to me that out of all the people to really be passionate about climate change it would be republicans since most republicans live in rural places out in the country and would want to preserve the wilderness they live in and stop it from decaying anymore.

but in reality its the democrats that want to stop climate change and the republicans think its a hoax.

anyone care to explain why Republicans are so against addressing climate change?
 
It is a farce! However, last I checked the Dem's control the House, Senate and Presidency so it does not matter what we think, now does it? The Dem's will take care of it in Copenhagen in December and Obama will fix your wagon increasing taxes on Utility companies, natural resources and gas to the point that we will all be in soup lines this time next year. The Republicans have offered up several options that would have been better, not pushing more companies to leave America and would have kept jobs here.
 
Not all of them are, only the extreme right that believes accepting the fact that science might be right on something, would mean they have to denounce their religion.
They believe the divine man can't destroy what God created and accepting the fact that that is exactly what we are doing some how, to them, means accepting God doesn't exist. They are the same way with many scientific ideas, evolution included, but what all knowing God would create an organism that it didn't want to have to babysit constantly without allowing it to evolve?
Its the extremist mentality, If it doesn't say so in the Bible, then it isn't true.

It is easier for some people to embrace the blissful ignorance of irrationalism when they don't understand something. If you present anything that proves that ignorance wrong they'll get violent and/or denounce your ideas as false religion and heresy. Some things never do change.
 
The Republicans' biggest campaign contributors are the oil companies. GW Bush's biggest contributor was Enron, in fact Bush flew around the country on Enron's private jets all through his campaign. Enron was also Bush's dad's biggest contributor, and it was deregulations pushed through by the GOP that helped Enron become the company they were, a virtual monopoly on energy brokering across the country.

The oil companies are the ones doing all the fake research to try to show that Global Warming is a hoax. Whenever you read an article in a magazine or newspaper about global warming being not a problem, or see an 'expert' commentator on TV, that person is working for a thinktank or PR firm financed by the oil companies. The only way to solve the problem of global warming is to curtail the use of fossil fuels, and this would hurt the oil companies' profits, so they are spending a huge amount of money, literally billions of dollars a year, to publicize the idea that it's not a real problem.
