Our energy today is mostly dependent on gasoline, a market controlled mostly by foreign countries, so its important that we start making our own energy because they dictate the prices. Also non-renewable energy will not last forever. We need energy that we can make ourselves that will last longer and not destroy the environment. Vast amounts of energy can be made from renewable energy sources so it makes sense from an economical standpoint as well. Some of these even serve multiple purposes. A new form of solar tower is being developed, it is essentially a super greenhouse. It is essentially a square mile of heat absorbing materials with a tower in the center. The heat will move towards the center tower turning turbines and producing energy and plants can be grown in the warm environment as well.
I could go on and on about why renewable energy is important.
