Why are red bell peppers $3.48 each and green bell peppers are only $0.78?

I know they are grown here in Texas, so there isn't a huge distance to distribute them, so why so high?
Wow. I seriously did not know that, and I have grown bell peppers for years... I always pick them when they are bright green... Awesome. I will just leave them on longer this year.
