Why are pro sports players payed so much?

We pay most pros an average of 2 million dollars for just playing sports at high level. Yeah it is entertaining and fun but, we could be using that money to help all the people of America who are in need. Why would we just waste that money?
 
they have to be the best of the best and they worked so hard when they were small to come all the way to the top. They can also perform well on the field for extra cash
