Specifically, I am thinking about how some political issues - like support of socialized medicine, support of abortion rights, opposition to capital punishment, opposition to a two-party system, and support of same-sex equality - are taken as "mainstream" by parties of the left and the right in other countries, yet, in the United States, these are still "debatable" topics.
Now, I am a Canadian, but I am a Conservative, which means that I agree with Republican views in the United States. However, notwithstanding political viewpoints, why does the U.S. debate things that the rest of the world now takes for granted.
