...are supporting Obama? Just a thought I had.

I don't understand why those that are not even 1/10 in their league are whining about paying higher taxes?

If they're willing to do this and they make far more money than the "Average Joe" then what is the complaint about TAXES?
Carol H, exactly how much of your taxes are actually going to the poor? Just a question I wanted to ask, because I keep hearing people say that all the time and I'm wondering just how much does the average American really pay from their money that goes to the poor.

Honestly, most people have nothing to be concerned about, as they would pay less taxes under obama....

I just don't see it why "Joe SixPack" would rather keep paying the same amount of taxes just so "Bob Millionaire" can pay less? :S

How brain-dead do you have to be to actually WANT the government to take more money from you?

If I run for office and promise to take your money, will you vote for me, too?

I have to tell you, liberals are an insult to intellect. Congress has a 7% approval rating, and you think they've earned a raise!

So your saying that Buffet, Gates, and Winfrey are supporting Obama so they can pay higher taxes?

First of all, you NEVER should base your vote or political reasoning on celebrity endorsement. Learn how to do your own research and then make an informed decision.

Secondly, I could care less if these people want to throw their money away. They represent a very minute minority of the "20% of America that makes 80% of the money" (according to my economics book).

Plus, like many insanely rich people, I bet their accountants have found the loopholes in the tax system whether through off-shore accounts or some other thing. In any case, I bet they could live pretty comfortable lives of just 10% of their money and assets.

Obama is shooting from the hip with his call to raising the taxes. Sure it sounds great when only the "rich" people get taxed, but this is a typical strategy used to get more votes in the bag. Once Obama realizes that there just aren't enough "rich" people taxes to fuel all his fun little health care experiments, he'll start sticking his hands in the pockets of the middle class.

The funny thing is that he's been advised by economists, both inside and outside his campaign, that higher taxes ultimately brings down tax revenue and the market robustness - and yet the truths of a repetitive history fall on deaf ears with Obama.

So, if he doesn't want more money... the only reason he'd want to raise taxes is to gain more POWER!!! So what if he's getting less revenue, people towards the tipping point (and trust me, we have more and more people falling victim to the tightness of loans and lose of homes and jobs that are in that category) will ultimately start depending more on the government instead of generating their own revenue. The downward spiral of inevitable SOCIALISM - oops, sorry I said the "s" word - will once again tempt the American people.

Now it may not go that far, but the point I'm trying to make is don't look to people's advice if they stand nothing to lose. What you should be doing is consulting historians and economists who know the patterns of the free market - then reconsider your view on higher taxes.

because they have soo much money to last them 10 life time or more that paying extra taxes won't effect their living style at all.

It boils down to political ideology. I think that all people should pay less taxes while the government spends less and operates within its budget.

Liberals believe that a big government is necessary to promote equality and opportunity. Many ideologies go against this grain of thought.

well, if i remember it right buffet had said ha is not paying any tax at all?
if what he said is true then i guess the rich wants to help not only the poor but the not so poor by spreading their wealth. that is why they are supporting Obama.

You must be rich? People don't like high taxes because it cuts into their standard of living. When you mention ultra rich people like Buffett, Gates, and Winfrey, you are talking about people who actually pay very low rates of taxation because they don't live off of income. Most of their money comes from stock options, and dividends, which are capped at 15%. Probably, they all pay around the 15% tax bracket, where as somebody like Joe the Plumber would be in the 33% tax bracket.

Those people have more money than they could spend in 10 lifetimes. There aren't enough people making over 250K to pay for everything Obama wants so he will end up taxing the middle class bigtime. The middle class has to pay for their food, heat, housing etc. etc. We don't get the government handouts that the poor get, we pay for those too. We can't afford to pay any more to those who are too lazy to support themselves.
