Why are people on this site so quick to judge others based solely on things like...

...grammar and spelling? Why is it so hard for people on this site to grasp the concept that there are more important things in life than having flawless grammar and spelling?
Trish - I wasn't talking about THIS section, I was talking about the entirity of Yahoo! Answers.

I don't expect flawless grammar and spelling out of anyone anywhere. However, on here I'm picky about it because you're looking at something, trying to answer someone's question. If the information isn't correctly provided to you, it makes it very hard to read it, let alone answer it.

...And some people are just jerks and get a kick out of making fun of others.

true people are quick to judge. i think it has to do with the ego boost one gets by pointing out other's flaws- btw you misspelled entirety (not entirity)

When someone is asking a question, they should be as specific as they can be, and correct grammar certainly helps a lot more for people to understand. I've come across questions that I can barely read -- and this is when people usually have something to say. If there's a "u" or an "r" here and there I don't see anybody complaining, but....
if su1m ty3pz lYk3 d1s or mkez 2 mni speln eroz 2 da pont dt u cnt red it, how are you supposed to answer them? Judging them is wrong, but on the other hand, they cannot expect an answer if they're spelling is hopeless. It isn't hard to type "you" instead of "u."

I think because some questions are nearly impossible to comprehend due to their confusing language or spelling. Too many awkward sentences and abbreviations can easily turn off any reader.

Your question is nothing more but an excuse not to do things right.
It is as easy to write correctly as it is to make mistakes.
It is also a sign of not caring about those whom you pose the question to. If you cannot respect your reader enough to write proper English, why would they respect you enough to give a decent answer.

And last, but a disputable reason, because the Chinese and Indians are coming. In the western world we have gotten lazy. We make excuses to blame others for our fault. In the meantime in up and coming nations, they learn our language and they do care enough to do it right, to do it flawless. They take the time to do it correctly.
They gain the upper hand because they don't make lame excuses, because they do improve in all areas, even language.

Well, as this category is "words and word play" I think it is right to be pedantic.
You have to judge, by the question, whether the asker would want you to correct their spelling etc.
In some categories It`s not important, as long as the question can be understood, although in some cases, it`s impossible to work out what is actually being asked.
