why are people hesitant to switch to cricket

There are 10's of phones Verizon carries cricket doesn't. Not to mention all the other carrier options. Face it crickets phone options are very limited no tough phones, no smart phones and there is no such thing as "unlocked" or using any GSM phone by slapping your sim in. One must pay $15 every swap in addition to a premium price for the flashed phones which may or may not work properly and whos options are limited. Finally how does one know about these flashed phones? It's not like Cricket advertises them and it's not like every subscribes to these or similar forums to find out.
As far as saving money I like it a lot but the verdict is still out whether cricket is delivering my calls 100%. It's only my second month but I seem to have a lot more voicemails from people which I never heard the phone actually ring. Back on Cingular I don't remeraber this being problem - so is it really a comparable product whereby you can compare prices?

1. cricket delivers calls the same as any CDMA/GSM carrier. they all use the same equipment and switches. Lucent, Nortel, Ericsson, Nokia. Trust me, i've dealt with Cingular customers complaining that their calls went straight to voicemail without ringing the phone. It is usually a local issue with a hanRABet.
2. i bought a sprint mogul on ebay for 240 dollars. i flashed it, and have been using it on cricket. show me where you can get a sprint mogul no contract on sprint for 240 bucks
It isn't a matter of knowing all this crap. Its a matter of advertising on Crickets part, and consumers being knowledgable about what they are buying. i bought a flashed phone for cricket before i ever even knew about flashing and prl's. google cricket vx9900 or cricket chocolate and you'll realize there are more phones out there than what cricket sells.

I think part of Cricket's "bad image" is due to the ability for non-corporate stores to carry the Cricket logo.
Here in Dayton, there are dozens of locations around town that have a great big Cricket sign on top of the store, leading customers to think these are actual Cricket stores when in reality they are only affiliate stores. These affiliates can't perform all of the services that a corporate store does. So you can imagine the confusion a non-Cricket customer can get if they are curious about subscribing and approach an affiliate first, much less existing customers who might get frustrated that the affiliates cannot fully service their account.

How often does the normal consumer really change their phone? MAYBE once every 6 months... In regarRAB to TOUGH phones, umm, most any phone dropped on the ground will have some damage, i've dropped my krzr a couple of times and still works like a beauty and looks good too, so i'm not sure what you mean by tought... cyz nextel/sprint is the only one that has the rubber made phones that i know of.
Depending on where you go, direct/indirect getting a flashed phone is very much possible. If by chance you end up in a indirect store, they'll give you a flashed phone or even offer to flash one for you
