Allegiance Questions? We know "character flaws" and "signs of lack of loyalty" are not issues that are swept under the rug and forgotten about. The person being elected will be in charge of the most powerful country in the world.
To Hero of the stupid:
Critically analyzing candidates' character flaws is part of America's voting process. It has been that way since the founding of America.

Also, that is being reflected in Yahoo! Answers's politics section. A large percentage of the questions asked deal with "character flaws" and allegiance.

"The person being elected will be in charge of the most powerful country in the world."
AMEN.

"When a man assumes a public trust he should consider himself a public property."
Thomas Jefferson

His issues are the same as hers, we know them from the very beginning of this campaigned. Now it's about character.

Because the followers of the Messiah, Lord Obama, don't want his history and his many flaws revealed to the public. They demand that the media worship at his feet and only ask softball questions. Stop whining Obamites, your boy is being exposed as the left wing elitist, globalist that he is.

Because Obama got all hissy when he was questioned. They've spoken before about the issues, now it's time to scrutinize. Turn up the heat.

It was a stupid, frivilous, nonsense debate and should simply be discarded as ABC trying to get some ratings.

All it really did was give Billary another chance to show her uncouth personality and gave her a chance for the 'pot to call the kettle black'.

I hope Obama will be more prepared the next time for her devisiveness. (Even if I will not be voting for either of them). Billary's dirty, hypocritical tactics is so repulsive to me.

It's the double standard rule being applied by the media, especially the folks at MSNBC.

It was fine when Hillary Clinton got pounded but question Obama about his character and you would have thought that the world would stop spinning on its axis.

I did not have the chance to see the debates myself (tax season and all), but from the descussions afterwards, I think the big blowback is because the hosts focused so very hard on those cahracter issues. Since both Obama and Clinton are so close in their positions, the only real contrast is in these minor issues. Thus they beat tha thorse to death. I will have to see the debate to know for certain, but that is my feeling.

The people who are most against it are the people whose candidate is being questioned. They are hoping people will overlook those flaws and poor personal (and professional) judgment, and they feel the less said about those problems, the better. That is why they are against it.
The fact is, they know these things are what alienate voters, and they try to offset them by calling them distractions, and claiming "conflict of interest" because one of the hosts in question was a Clinton White House aide at one time. They overlook the fact that the host quit the White House corp before Clinton's term expired, and that he is now a private person, doing a private job. They overlook that, just like they overlook the fact that their candidate has exhibited anger issues, demeaning attitudes toward middle class America, and an alarming propensity for angering nuclear equipped nations and having them call him "irresponsible"; and telling other nations (one nation admitted the contact with him) to disregard negative statements about NAFTA as "political posturing". http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/04/us/politics/04nafta.html?_r=1&st=cse&sq=obama+nafta&scp=9&oref=slogin
The terrorist group Hamas, through Ahmed Yousuf, Hamas' top political adviser, says they hope Obama wins the election. Yousuf goes on to say that they understand Obama will have to say things supporting Israel, but they also understand it will be "political posturing". OMG, where did we hear that before? Oh, yeah...That NAFTA thing. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/?pageId=61631
If these things are really, as they say "non-issues", I wonder why they defend them so vigorously?

I think that most of the people that are angry at ABC for asking questions about Obama's character and patriotism, are Obama supporters themselves. They hoped that questions about Obama's character and patriotism would be kept silent. And up to the point of ABC's debate, questions about Obama's character and patriotism have mostly been silent. Mainly because, most of the media networks were in the boat for Obama.

Although Obama has been given a free ride by most of the media networks, he must have known that sooner or later, questions about his character and patriotism would come up. Obama could have used ABC's questions as a way to air out his dirty closet by answering them, and to try to put to rest controversial questions about himself, but he didn't. And he then went on to whine about ABC and their questions. If Obama can't handle tough questions about himself, then how can he handle the tough questions he'll face if he becomes President of the United States?

I'm very proud of ABC for asking Obama those tough questions, because those questions needed to be asked.

Bravo ABC!

They devoted the first 45 minutes of the debate to getting the candidates to bickering and arguing. This was a ploy for ratings from ABC. Deplorable. We already knew about the stories they brought up.They have been been beaten senseless on the internet and TV. It was pointless. Goeoge Stephy was a part ot the Clinton team 10 yrs ago and that is NOT unbiased. But Obama did not bring that up. Despite that Obama rose above it all. He had the perfect opportunity to slam clinton re: Bosnia and he chose not to. She on the other hand took every opportunity to try and knife him at every turn. She is unscrupulous and vicious. That's the kind of tactics to expect of her in the whitehouse. Me, I'd rather have a man of integrity like Obama. Edvard: I seem to remember CLINTON crying like a baby re: getting asked the first question, even though NOW she is pointing the finger at Obama. LOL

Because it violates Obama's civil rights to ask him the same type of questions any other candidate would be asked.

All he and his supporters wanted out of the debate was the opportunity to recite the same old sound bites yet gain.

I think they were very generous to Obama to allow him the time and space to ANSWER the questions instead of doing what hes been doing for over a month- tap dancing around them.

Is it the fault of ABC that Obama was entirely unprepared to defend his associations and actions? No. And it is not ABCs fault that Obama cries like a baby about not being fawned over.

==edit==
Angelica, far as I know Clinton is still prepared to debate. Its Obama who has decided he is too good to explain himself.

i care about policy, not character. Policy is a reflection of character. if you believe in tax breaks for the ultra rich, and telling women what to do, you have no character.

I guess I didn't realize we were voting for the sleaziest tabloid fodder. I think we have bigger fish to fry then worrying about a lapel pin. Our economy is tanking, our education system needs desperate attention, and we are at war. I would assume the moderators decided the viewing audience would not pay attention if they discussed the actual issues. Remember, this is NOT the general election yet. Democrats are less inclined to get up in arms over the questions that were asked...meaning most would think the questions were a waste of time.

They are afraid he might appear wimpy if he starts crying during the debates. Our candidates running for president need their character flaws examined because our prez is one of the most powerful politicians in the world. Wearing a flag lapel may not prove love of the flag, but not wearing a flag lapel certainly would make me think one might just pretend to love OLD GLORY (for which my several friends and relatives gave their lives). There is not a dime's worth of difference in either ones policies.

you're right- screw the economy, screw healthcare, screw the debt, screw the war, screw the falling dollar, screw immigration

lets just all sit in a circle and talk about lapel pins
