Why are MOST people are so self-fish?

A house could be burning down (with people in it) but as long as it is not their's they don't care what happens. Why have people become like this? MOst people have no honor or respect for human life? As long as their self-fish needs are taken care of, they do NOT care what happens to others. This world is has become a VERY disgusting place. I do relaize this is the way it is. If you became homeless overnight and lost your home NOBODY would care. In fact, they would laugh and make fun of your misfortune. People are just so evil and cynical nowdays.

I don't believe this is anything new. People have always been this way. But in the past - I'm talking very long ago - people mostly lived in small communities, villages, and towns where everyone knew mostly everyone. They formed a community of people who said hello to each other in passing. In this sort of society, people within the community would help each other. When people lost that and moved to much larger cities where everything and everyone is impersonal and don't socialize with strangers, we lost the closeness of a community and the sense of obligation to another person (a relative stranger). However, this doesn't mean that people were any less selfish or cruel. In this sort of close-knit community, people knew each other's business, backstab, would purposely exclude those that were different or unacceptable in some way.
 
Hey thats not the view to analysis this question. generally we would like to keep our life in safe and sweet. in case accidents we must face the losses in oyr wealth,health etc., but in case of Humanity their was no limitations to give the wealth to others.

for example : Kargil war in indian border.

By our indians a lot of families were benifitted.
 
Totally true, but it's not new. Right from the start there has been something called "limited resources". Not everyone can have everything they want or need. For one person to have something comes at the expense of another person having it.

This creates competition. This creates "haves" and "have nots". This creates jealousy and anger. This creates wars, crime, and murder and I'm afraid it will always be that way.
 
It's not being selfish people don't have to care about others.
It's their choice after all right? Why can't you spell selfish?
 
The question should be why people are selfish. Selfishness is the secret of life. Unless one feels selfish, he / she would be inactive. "feeling of mine' is selfishness and every live / creature of earth wants "everything as its own so as all should be depend on me for anything": So every lives becomes actives to possess everything and the earth would start rotation.
Unless any expectation, nothing would be active and as such the God has given the hunger and thirst so as the people to be hungry and selfish to fill its belly..
Once a God blessed a person not to have hunger and he thus stopped working for the world and for himself. He just took rest and later his body become weak, indigestive, and the hormones of blood also become inactive. At last his body started decaying in soil when thee was life in his body.
Be active. Be selfish. Then only you will have any achievement in life.;
 
It's evolution.

It's enlightened self-interest.

It's the way of the world.

When a famine strikes. the selfish hoard food, and their off-spring thrive. Multiple this by thousands of years and you create the current human condition.
