Why are meaning and subjectivity important in social science research?

Please don't just direct me to Google or to research this myself! I have done plenty of reading, on hermeneutics, phenomenology and the work of Dilthey and Husserl etc. What I really am after is a neat sentence that I can open my essay with, basically to put all of this cr*p into layman's terms! The best I have is "meaning and subjectivity are important in social science research because the object of study, i.e. the complex social world, is socially culturally and historically constructed, and knowledge is time and place specific. This contrasts with research in the natural sciences, where an objectivist positivist approach is valid" Then I will launch into a discussion of positivism, post-positivism, then idealism, hermeneutics and phenomenology. If someone can tell me if I am on the right lines with this opening statement I would be truly grateful!!!
