Why are Liberals so against Charter Schools?

I've heard that some charter schools involve corporate sponsors or use the services of corporations that create standardized tests. I've read that charter schools promote learning by rote at the expense of creativity and value test scores over individual thought. This might be true in some cases but I've had first hand experience meeting children from charter middle schools. The discipline, long hours of study, the uniforms, the structure in the classroom brought out such good results and I was very impressed with the students I met. I also know that if a charter school doesn't produce results the charter is revoked and the school no longer exists. Why would Liberals be against an opportunity for these students to better themselves? I think we need at least one generation to test the effectiveness of charter schools as we chart these students through college and career placement.

Just FYI I attended a public middle school and high school. Most of the time the teachers had to discipline the students. I'd have done whatever was necessary to get into a charter school.
