Why are lesbians based off of greek mythology, and a poet?

Do you like being called a lesbian?

Is that why it rhymes with Thespian because they both are similar forms of classical American theater some what based of the greek system?
 
Why not? There is a story behind every word.

I don't like the "lesbian" term... I prefer gay or queer. It sounds like an ethnicity or disease.. and just plain tacky. Not to mention it's constantly been used in the porn industry, it seems it's becoming synonymous with a lot of negative (in my opinion) things.. Whenever I watch a video on Youtube with a lesbian talking about topics about things like relationships, etc... in the "related videos" there's always some nasty porn-ish videos. Annoying.


Just saying the "lesbian" term is being degraded day by day :/

Lesbian is a weird word. Really doesn't roll off the tongue well. But I've gotten used to it. I don't mind being called lesbian, unless the word "filthy" is put in front of it. I actually call myself gay more in real life, I never say lesbian haha. But on here, if I said I was gay, people might assume I am a man? But yeah I like the word gay a lot more. It rhymes with....YAY!

I know some girls like calling themselves "Les" or "Lez" instead cause it's less awkward sounding.
 
Did you know that we are called Lesbians because that poet you spoke of was born on the isle of Lesbos? Her name was Sappho.



Personally, I like the term. And I don't mind that it rhymes with thespian.
