Why are layers so important is photoshop?

Why does Adobe make photoshoping so freaking hard. Layers are just images in the front or back of other images. Its just like send to front/send to back in Microsoft word. Why can't you work on a single piece one at a time and when all your pieces are done then use the Microsoft word philosophy. It stupid how complicated they made it!!

its the complete opposite of stupid actually. I am a photographer and layer are single handedly the best thing on photoshop. If you were professionally using t, which you obviously aren't it would be significantly helpful to you. So don't use them because you certainly are not doing anything important enough to use them anyways.

with layers your able to work on another part of the piece, and you can't accidently ruin the other parts. trust me there useful, I accidently ruined a picture that took me an entire day just because i didn't use layers... i had to start all over T_T

Well, layers are to make it easier to edit. To click on a layer and move it above another is (I think) easier than right clicking something and moving it on top, and then moving everything else as well since you moved it to the top. In my opinion, it makes it easier...
