Why are larks so happy?

my cat just ate the kind of chicken people eat for the first time. my mom said she was as happy as a lark and i was wondering why are larks so happy. so if you would please answer this question it would help

Haha, its just an old saying. Humans perceive that Larks are always happy because they sing beautiful all the time. In reality they sing to attract a mate and proclaim territory. They are probably not happy all the time but there singing is pleasant to us.
